FFL Transfers

How much does it cost to transfer a firearm from another FFL to Tactical Weapons?

Tactical Weapons charges $55 per firearm for an incoming FFL transfer, plus one $10 background check fee for the transaction. One background check covers all firearms transferred during that same occasion.

Can Tactical Weapons receive an online firearm order from another FFL?

Yes. Customers can have a firearm shipped to Tactical Weapons from another FFL for transfer processing. Before shipping, confirm the seller has Tactical Weapons' current FFL information and include the buyer name, contact information, invoice, and tracking details so the store can match the shipment to the customer.

Buying & Pickup

What should I bring to pick up a firearm purchase or FFL transfer?

Bring a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID showing your name, residence address, and date of birth. If one document does not show all required information, a combination of government-issued documents may be needed. The buyer must complete the required transfer paperwork and receive background-check approval before the firearm can be released.

Can an out-of-state resident buy a firearm from Tactical Weapons in Florida?

A Florida FFL may generally handle an over-the-counter rifle or shotgun sale to an out-of-state resident only when the transaction complies with Florida law and the buyer's state law. Handguns for out-of-state residents generally must be transferred through an FFL in the buyer's state of residence. Contact Tactical Weapons before ordering or traveling so the store can confirm the proper transfer path.

Do I need a Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License to buy a firearm?

No. Florida does not require a permit simply to purchase a firearm, and no permit exempts a buyer from the background-check requirement. A valid Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License can still matter for waiting-period exemptions and remains useful for reciprocity and identification purposes.

Background Checks & Waiting Period

Can I pick up a firearm on the same day I buy it?

Same-day pickup may be possible when the buyer has a valid Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License and the background check is approved the same day. All firearm transfers remain subject to required background-check approval and applicable federal, state, and local rules.

How long is the Florida firearm waiting period?

Florida law generally requires a waiting period of 3 days, excluding weekends and legal holidays, between purchase and delivery, or until the required records check is complete, whichever occurs later. Certain exceptions apply, including qualifying concealed weapon or firearm license holders. Some local rules can affect timing, so customers should confirm pickup timing with the store.

Does Florida law say the waiting period starts on the day of purchase?

Yes. Florida law ties the waiting period to the purchase and defines purchase as the transfer of money or other valuable consideration to the retailer. For incoming FFL transfers handled by Tactical Weapons, the transfer transaction is completed for store processing when the transfer fee is paid. The firearm can be released only after the required background check is approved and any applicable waiting period is satisfied. If the transfer fee is not paid, Tactical Weapons must return the firearm to the sender.

What happens if my background check is delayed, conditional, or not approved?

Tactical Weapons cannot release the firearm until the required background check is approved and any applicable waiting period has been satisfied. If FDLE returns a delayed, conditional, or non-approval status, the store must follow FDLE procedures and the buyer may need to resolve the issue directly with the appropriate agency.

Florida Carry Basics

What are the legal requirements to buy, own, or carry a firearm in Florida?

In general, buying a firearm from a Florida FFL requires the buyer to be at least 21, present valid identification, not be prohibited from possessing firearms, complete the required paperwork, pass the FDLE background check, and satisfy any applicable waiting period or exemption. Florida does not require a permit simply to purchase or lawfully own a firearm, but possession and carry remain restricted for prohibited persons and in certain places. Florida also allows eligible adults to carry a concealed firearm without a Florida concealed weapon license if they meet the statutory eligibility criteria. This is general store information, not legal advice.

Can I open carry a firearm in Florida?

Open carry in Florida changed after the First District Court of Appeal issued its September 10, 2025 McDaniels decision declaring section 790.053 unconstitutional. Because statutes, appeals, enforcement guidance, private-property rules, and restricted locations can still affect real-world carry, customers should verify the current status before relying on open carry in any specific situation.

Where can I not carry a firearm in Florida?

Even where carry is otherwise lawful, Florida law and federal law restrict firearms in specific places. Examples include courthouses, courtrooms, polling places, detention facilities, certain government meetings, school or college facilities, airport passenger terminals and sterile areas, and places where federal law prohibits firearms. The full list is statutory and fact-specific, so check current law before carrying.

Ownership & Records

Does Florida require firearm registration?

Florida generally does not maintain a state firearm registry, and state law restricts the creation of lists or registries of lawfully owned firearms or firearm owners, subject to limited records allowed by law. Firearm owners should still keep their own purchase and transfer records and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Can I lawfully use firearms for target shooting, hunting, or sporting purposes in Florida?

Florida law recognizes lawful ownership, possession, and use of firearms for purposes such as defense, target practice, marksmanship, lawful hunting, and other lawful uses, as long as the person is not otherwise prohibited and the activity follows applicable federal, state, local, range, and property rules.
